We see these two powerful people who are suddendly in awe of this little person! He's adorable! I also like the contrast in colors.įirst off, I just want to thank Nuradar for picking a fantastic screencap. But standing there in the room it would be obvious. Watching the movie I think it was meant to be subtle. But when I looked at your sc I noticed it practically glowing right away. Did you notice the King’s white throne that was higher up the stairs, or did you just assume that Denethor’s throne was it? (I must admit that because this shot was so short, I didn’t even notice the King’s throne until I watched the Director/Writers’ commentary and they talked about it) Nope. My second reaction was 'Oh no! Don't let that sweet Hobbit anywhere near that nasty man!'Ģ. I was impressed and it was a very, dare I say, mature thing to do. How did you feel when Pippin completely disregarded Gandalf’s warnings, and told Denethor about Boromir’s death and pledged allegiance to Gondor? I thought it was a very Hobbit like thing to do. It's the way you can see the King's throne, high, clean, and bright with honor, while Denethor sits low, pitiful, alone, and in despair. Great SCOD Nuradar - looking forward to the rest of the week! It was supposed to give the impression of being very heavy and unmovable. In the scene where Denethor see's a vision of Boromir and falls backwards - the chair he sits is knocked quite hard and tilts slightly. On a funnier note - if Denenthor did sit in the Kings chair - his eating table would have to have very long legs maybe they would give him a stable-table (one of those trays that sits on your knees ) Im suprised Theoden didn't cover it with a sheet, the way he felt about the rule of Gondor. I think it blends with the colours of the hall - mostly black and white marbles and granite. Yes, I noticed the throne above, and because Gandalf had expressed that Denethor was 'the Stward of Gondor' a caretaker and not the King, before entering the hall, the throne at the top of the stairs looked as if it certainly was very kingly. He seems to sit and fester in that cold hall. Denethor's presence filled the hall - he would have been very hard not to give this information - or at least explain Boromir's death - though Pippin doesn't understand (nor Gandalf to some degree) the danger of such banter with Denethor. I think Gandalfs face said it all, though I thought Pippin did the right thing in this instance. Must be lonely sitting in that big hall with only your own misery for company. (This post was edited by Nuradar on Aug 11 2008, 4:39pm) Do you find this symbolism obvious or subtle?Īs usual, any other thoughts are welcomed and encouraged! Do you think it’s appropriate for the King’s throne to be white, and the Steward’s throne to be black? The King’s throne is also brightly lit and practically glows, while the Steward’s just blends in with the stairs and has few noticeable features. I like this image because it is one of the only moments in the entire film where we see BOTH thrones - the one for the King, and the Steward’s throne, on which Denethor is sitting.ġ. But then I realized that would exclude some of the coolest images in these sections, so I abandoned that idea – this time! Here is the first one for this week… At first, I thought I would choose images along a particular theme for example, the relationship between Gandalf and Pippin. As usual, it is so difficult to pick just one image from each of these sections. Hello folks! Welcome to the first SCOD for this week I’m really looking forward to this week’s discussions.
